Blocks and Birthdays

Friday night, I made my return to track at ONU’s annual Joe Banks Invitational, where I ran the 400. My time was a few seconds off my pr, but that was expected coming off an injury. I enjoyed competing and spending time with my teammates throughout the meet. My parents are my biggest supporters, and this was my first collegiate competition that neither of them attended. They were both traveling home from work trips. It was weird for me not to have them there, especially since the meet fell on my dad’s birthday. The meet didn’t end until 10:30, and we had a team meeting afterwards. Once I got some food and was ready for bed, it was about 12:45.

The next morning, I made the two-hour drive home to celebrate my dad’s birthday. My dad, brother and I grabbed lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. Afterwards, we relaxed at home. For dinner, my family went to a local hibachi restaurant. Our chef realized it was my dad’s birthday and gave him an inflatable crown and had him hold a fire wand. We returned home, where we met my grandma for cake. I hadn’t seen my grandma since early January, so I was excited to see her again.

My mom, dad and I finished the night by watching the movie Swiped. I found this movie intriguing. It was based on Whitney Wolfe Herd’s career. A recent college graduate looking to make an impact on the world. She ended up joining Hatch Labs, a male-dominated technology company. Whitney and a few men at the company developed the app Tinder. The men isolated her, and one of them began vigorously harassing her. The situation led to a legal battle, her departure from Hatch Labs and the signing of an NDA. Whitney went on to launch Bumble and became one of the youngest female billionaires. At the end of the movie, an epilogue appeared stating that in real life Whitney was not interviewed for the movie since she was under an NDA. I would highly recommend this movie for anyone who likes documentary-style watches!

On Sunday, I spent the morning prepping to head back to school. I did laundry, homework, watched a webinar for PRSSA (shameless plug- everyone reading should join), filled out my planner for the week and cleaned my room. I really enjoyed being home and spending time with my family and dogs.

Looking forward to what this week's journey holds!
